This replaces Unit 7 Assignment .

Paper on Innovation Strategy

Introduction

Introduce your industry and region, innovation in terms of scope *politics

Literature Review

In your particular research area

Synthesise related theories and models from the module readings and literature.

Methodology

Defining region and nature of the innovation

related theories and models – can they be used?

Analysis

Current situation in your area

SWOT –

Describe the strengths and weaknesses in the organisation’s innovation management structure.

Discuss how the organisation currently sources new ideas, technologies and so on for its innovation activity. Evaluate, critically, the effectiveness of the current approach and discuss how this can be improved.

Discuss how the concepts of lead user innovation, open innovation and disruptive innovation may or may not be applicable to the organisation’s sourcing approach.

Provide a diagrammatic illustration (and a narrative) of the organisation’s innovation strategy, even if the organisation does not have an explicitly defined strategy.

Strategy in terms of new knowledge

Discussion

Propose how an improved innovation strategy may be developed, making sure that all the building blocks of an innovation strategy, as discussed in the module notes, have been addressed.

Propose how this new strategy may be implemented. Describe how the process of implementation will be managed, both from the processual and change management points of view.

Discuss the potential challenges in implementing the proposed innovation strategy and how these could be overcome.

Discuss how you would monitor the success of the new innovation strategy.

Conclusion

Recommendations for the future in this area/region

What future innovation strategy do you recommend?

Unit 7 Assignment

MODULE PROJECT FINAL SUBMISSION

set: 02/12/2016             due: 30/12/2016

During Week 4, you started the Module Project analysing innovation in an organisation. This week, you will finalise the project with a deeper analysis of how innovation takes place and how it could be improved in your selected organisation.

As part of this final section of the project, submit a paper, consisting of approximately 4,000 words by addressing the following:

  • Describe the strengths and weaknesses in the organisation’s innovation management structure.
  • Discuss how the organisation currently sources new ideas, technologies and so on for its innovation activity. Evaluate, critically, the effectiveness of the current approach and discuss how this can be improved.
  • Discuss how the concepts of lead user innovation, open innovation and disruptive innovation may or may not be applicable to the organisation’s sourcing approach.
  • Provide a diagrammatic illustration (and a narrative) of the organisation’s innovation strategy, even if the organisation does not have an explicitly defined strategy.
  • Propose how an improved innovation strategy may be developed, making sure that all the building blocks of an innovation strategy, as discussed in the module notes, have been addressed.
  • Propose how this new strategy may be implemented. Describe how the process of implementation will be managed, both from the processual and change management points of view.
  • Discuss the potential challenges in implementing the proposed innovation strategy and how these could be overcome.
  • Discuss how you would monitor the success of the new innovation strategy.
  • Synthesise related theories and models from the module readings and literature.

In each submission, be sure to cite and reference examples from the module textbook and journal articles presented in this module, as well as resources you identify from your own research. Your submissions should demonstrate critical analysis of the topic and a coherent application of related theories.

Send your completed project to your instructor at: karen.howells@neu.edu.tr

Unit 7 Discussion

Unit 7 Discussion

set: 02/12/2016         due:09/12/2016

As you prepare for this Discussion, consider how innovation strategies can fail if there is a disconnect between what the company wants to achieve and what it is capable of achieving. As described in this week’s resources, sometimes this disconnect arises due to a lacking appreciation for the organisation’s own strengths and weaknesses.

With these thoughts in mind, in a 750- to 1,000-word response, post your answers to the following questions to the comments section below:

  • Provide an example of a case in which there is a ‘disconnect’ between a company’s goal or mission and its innovation.
  • How can an innovation strategy process prevent this disconnect?
  • How can you apply a ‘reality check’ on the viability of an innovation strategy? Give examples.

Remember to cite and reference examples from the readings and journal articles for this week.

Continuing our look at disruptive innovation

Here are some up-to-date examples of disruptive technology:

  • Algae-derived biofuels – e.g. Solazyme
  • Crowd-sourcing – e.g. Kickstarter
  • iPhone App-based same-day Doctor home visits – e.g. One Medical Group
  • Novel, extremely cost-efficient genome-sequencing – e.g. Illumina
  • Short-lived photo-sharing – photo-flashing – e.g. Snapchat
  • Renting Dresses rather than buying – e.g. Rent-the-Runway
  • Common open-source OS across all devices – e.g. Ubuntu by Canonical
  • Shareable online content and ads – e.g. BuzzFeed
  • Inexpensive online and mobile payments – e.g. Dwolla
  • Disruptive Innovation NEEDED in Healthcare & Education Christensen

unit 6 Discussion

DISCUSSION

To prepare for this Discussion, review the section of Weekly Notes discussing disruptive innovation. Based on the reading, it may be argued that disruptive innovation is neither sudden nor surprising – the signs are there for everyone to see.

With these thoughts in mind, in a 750- to 1,000-word response, post your answers to the following comments section>

  • Choose a particular industry, market or company with the potential for disruption.
  • Identify what and who might cause the disruption, and how so.
  • Provide a clear analysis of current gaps in the chosen industry, market or company and future innovations.
  • Focus on your reasoning rather than the accuracy of your observations.

Remember to cite and reference examples from the readings and journal articles for this week

Unit 5 Discussion 2

It can be much easier to be innovative for a tangible item that you can touch and look upon. But what do you do when it is a service which you cannot touch? We all know services exist, but they exist as concepts not as tangible products. This intangible quality can make service innovation ideas arguably more difficult to communicate, as they do not have physical features.

With these thoughts in mind, in a 750- to 1,000-word response, and add to the comments section below:

  • How would you overcome the difficulty of developing innovation for a service?
  • How would you evaluate the viability of a service innovation idea?
